My grandparents came from Eastern Europe and lived in a community that came from the same area. It was in South New Jersey. They hung a cotton ball on their screen doors to keep flies away.
That’s interesting! Just a plain cotton ball, not soaked in anything? Do you remember if it seemed to work? I’m wondering what other cultural methods folks might use from around the world to get rid of flies - it’s a worldwide problem, after all (except Antarctica I imagine)
