I notice that mistletoe seems to be most prominent in oaks, red oaks to be specific. Did you find anything in your research to support this observation?
I found information that said it can be found in oak, cherry, sycamore, maple, hickory, black gum, and others. But I'll have to say, I've never seen it in cherry trees, and not that I can think of in sycamores. I did find a brochure about "Oak Mistletoe", but I'm not sure if that's a sub-species or just a nickname for mistletoe because it seems to appear in oaks more often:
If it does appear more often in oaks, it makes you wonder why? Do birds prefer oaks and thus wipe the mistletoe off their beaks there? Do other trees somehow resist mistletoe? I'll keep looking...
